MINUTES
Planning Commission
,;,,August 8, 1985
Minnesota
Mini - Storage
(Cone.)
The Planner stated that he would check this out when he receives the signage
plans.
Mrs.Timmons commented that the property is properly zoned and that the
proposal was a good one.
Mr. DeLonais recommended that the Minnesota Mini - Storage PUD be
amended as requested upon submission of a satisfactory landscape plan
and signage plan.
Motion seconded by Mr. Ducharme.
Motion carried 7 - 0.
Steneroden Mr. Rocky Waite appeared before the Commission requesting approval of
Proposal the rezoning of R -1 property to B -3. Schrier described his proposal
and pointed out that access to the remaining R -1 property would be
through the Schrier property.
Gloria Bjorkland of 60 Iona Lane appeared before the Commission and
reported that she was opposed to the proposal. Bjorkland stated that
the area was R -1 when she purchased her property and she would like
to see the area remain R -1. Bjorkland also stated that the Iona Lane
residents are opposed to B -3 in the back of the Townley lot.
Bjorkland stated that the Iona Lane residents have been assured for many
years by various Councils that the area would remain R -1 and, she felt
that the property could be developed as R -1.
Mr. Marvin Lee of Iona Lane felt that there was no justification for a
rezoning and felt that a rezoning would be a detriment to the residents
of Iona Lane.
Mr. Frank Gau of Iona Lane reported that the issue of rezoning has been
coming up since 1964 and various Councils have assured the Iona Lane
residents that the property would remain R -1.
Kathy Townley of Iona Lane suggested that the B -3 zoning stop as far
back as Lot 16. Townley did not want B -3 zoned property in the back
of her lot.
Mr. Bjorkland suggested that the property on Rice Street not be rezoned
but handled under a special use permit as the properties on the corner
of Rice and Iona Lane.
The Planner replied that this is not permitted under the ordinance and
the properties on Iona Lane and Rice Street are non - conforming. The
commercial uses that are there could not be re- established if they moved
out.
Page -2-
