-2- <br />Locations Considered <br />A street light may be installed at every street intersection open for <br />traffic in the City, except in cases where the Public Works <br />Supervisor determines adjacent street lighting is adequate to cover <br />an intersection or the low volumes of traffic and pedestrians does <br />not warrant the installation. <br />Mid -block street lights may be installed where the center line to <br />center line distance between cross streets is greater than 800 feet, <br />or less if sight distance warrants and is determined necessary by the <br />Public Works Supervisor. Lights are not to be placed closer than <br />250' apart. <br />Lighting shall be installed at dead end streets or cul -de -sacs <br />greater than 300 feet in length. <br />Other street lights may be considered if a specific safety hazard <br />exists. The Public Works Supervisor shall review the location <br />specified and provide a recommendation to the City Council. <br />A street light may be installed at marked cross walks if greater than <br />250' from an intersection light or if determined to be a hazardous <br />traffic location by the Public Works Supervisor. <br />Arterial and collector streets are to be considered on an individual <br />basis. Type, size and spacing of lighting is to take into account <br />such facts as traffic volume, turning movements, etc. Generally the <br />light spacing should follow the attached standards but could be of <br />higher wattage. <br />Types of Lighting Installed <br />Additional lights in already lighted areas will be of comparable size <br />and type. The City may choose to install a more efficient and /or <br />effective type of luminaire. <br />All new developed areas or large existing unlit areas where <br />underground wiring is present shall be serviced by buried cable and <br />lit with 100 watt high pressure sodium in the City's custom <br />residential fixture. <br />Ornamental street lights will be considered on a case by case basis <br />by the City Council and shall meet, as a minimum, the location, <br />wattage standards and design standard herein. <br />Arterial and collector roads shall be illuminated as directed by the <br />Public Works Supervisor. <br />Residential street lighting shall be per the attached standards. The <br />city standards may be updated and /or changed to match City needs. <br />• <br />11 <br />
