MINUTES <br />Planning Commission <br />July 10, 1986 <br />Collova Mr. Rick Coll ova appeared before the Commission requesting a <br />Property realignment of lot lines for property on McMenemy so that a <br />Division home can he constructed on one of the lots. There would still <br />be three lots, however, lot lines would be adjusted so that Code <br />could be met on one of the lots in order to build on it. All <br />three lots would met Code requirements and setbacks would be <br />adequate. <br />Mr. Herkenhoff recommended approval of the Collova resubdivision <br />contingent upon the Engineer's review of drainage and utility <br />easements and submission of a Certificate of Survey. <br />Motion seconded by Mr. DeLonais. <br />Motion carried 7 - 0. <br />Rehabili- Mr. Phil Saari of the North Suburban Developmental Achievement <br />tation Center appeared before the Commission requesting that this <br />Center facility he allowed to locate in the front of the building <br />North used for bingo on Rice Street. <br />Suburban <br />DAC Saari explained that this program involved mentally - handicapped <br />adults, 21 years old and over. They currently have 85 adults <br />enrolled in this program and its hours of operation are 9 A.M. <br />until 3:30 P.M., Monday through Friday. <br />The purpose of the program is to train these adults so that they <br />can work in the community or in places of employment. In -house <br />work is provided as a means of training. This work includes <br />collating, assembling, small -hand work. The work is not delivered <br />in trucks, but rather in vans or cars. <br />Saari also explained that the purpose of the program is not to <br />have people remain in it indefinitely, but to try to get these <br />people out into the community. <br />Timmons asked what means of transportation these people use to <br />get to the facility. <br />Saari explained that presently they have three school buses bringing <br />in students, but since the facility will be located on a public bus <br />line, some of the students who are able will use the public bus. <br />Saari reported that they are proposing to lease 9,000 square feet, <br />and have an option to lease an additional 1,700. The building is, <br />completely sprinklered. <br />DeLonais asked if this portion of the building was separated from <br />the bingo hall. Saari replied that it was. <br />
