MINUTES
Planning Commission
November 13, 1986
M1 Cellular
Telephone
Company
(Cont.)
Max Thompson reported that there are towers in Hudson, Anoka and
Centerville. However, the Centerville tower is 230 feet high.
Mrs. Gervais appeared before the Coraission and reported that her
family is concerned about the tower and what would happen if the
tower would fall. Gervais also asked why a tower could not be
erected in a residential area.
Oxley replied that his experience is that cities will not approve
such tower in residential areas.
Gervais asked if there was any danger from radiation.
DeLonais felt that the only danger would be if the tower would fall.
Davison asked if the tower would cause problems with radio or television
reception.
Oxley reported that his company is regulated by the FCC and there
are currently 30 transmitters in the metro area and no complaints
have been received about reception problems caused by these towers.
The Planner pointed out that the tower will be loca }ed about 200 feet
from the corner of the Gervais property.
Gervais was also concerned about the drainage of the area.
Oxley reported that he would comply with any City requirements with
regard to drainage.
The Planner reported that Donovan Construction is coming in for a
building permit for an addition to his building. The City could get
Donovan to address some of the problems on his site at that time.
Davison felt that the Commission should review the total property.
Timmons felt that the Commission needed all of the information
in order to consider this proposal.
Oxley requested that the Commission address the Cellular One
and stated that he was aware that Cellular One would have to meet
construction and drainage requirements.
The Planner stated that the Donovan Construction addition is a
separate application, however, the Commission could recommend that
certain things be done on the Donovan property as part of the
Cellular One application. The Planner pointed out that this is
a special case in that there are two principle uses on one
property, however, one use is an essential service or a public
utility.
Page -7-
