Lob Deuce said that the park commission has had .a band shelter
in the plans since the time the first r-iaps were drawn and if they
thought it should be built they should send that recommendation to
the council and they would find a way to finance it if they approved
the recommendation.
Larry Saiko asked if there was any way we could make it a two or
three year project, It may be the Lions Club would not approve
aid withhold the money.
Jim iorelan stated he was in favor of the shelter being built but
did not want any money to come from our budget this year as we committed are comitted to other things and will have to cut : 4000.00 that
we had budgeted for.
A short survey was conducted of the schools in the area and St. Johns,
and Little Canada both enthusiasticly supported the idea of an
amphi- theature, stating that they would use it for student programs,
parent programs, senior citizens concerts and puppetry programs in
the summer. Kellogg's ,'r. Lueck thought he might be able to make
use of such a facility as did I=r. Ashenbrener at Hill- Lurray and
a municipal band from Roseville said they would be able to give
a number of concerts.
Jesperson said he realized the park budget is committed but with
the 7,300.00 in uncommitted funds he thought it could be managed.
fees
Ji::_orelan asked about the park fund'that was to be paid at the
time building permits were issued and Jesperson said he knew there
was money there earmarked for the park but he didn't know exactly
how much there was. It could be used at this time.
Dick Boss made the motion "that as a recommending body to the city
council that we accept the low bid from Dupre Construction Co.
for the construction of a band shelter.
Lotion seconded by Donovan and accepted unamiously.
Bill Sanders asked that it be put on the agenda tomorrow night.
The majority of people attending the meeting were in favor of
building a band shelter. Carl asked each person to respond and
they did favorably.
,'.orris Jesperson read a part of the contract with the school district
drawn up in August of 1975. At that time we entered into a 15 year
lease on the property with an opion to renew the lease for another
10 years, taking us into the year 2000. At that time the school
district should know what they will need to do with the property
and if they should sell we have first option of refusal. He thought
if we did have to buy at that time we could probably get the property
for what it cost the district, since they have paid no taxes on it.
Bill Sanders showed the map of the park to interested persons.
Jim iorelan asked that we find out how much money is available for
the park through building permit fees. Secretary was asked -to obtain
that information.
Meeting adjourned 8 :OOpm.
Jean Donovan, Secretary 48
