Hanson
Below are three quotes (also see attached) received by the City for its warming house project at
the Fire Barns property on Little Canada Road.
Michael Huber Architects $13,500
Busch Architects $17,420
RVK Architects $18,400
While on the surface it would appear that RVK Architects is the highest cost, City staff feels that
the services that will be provided by RVK Architects are superior to those outlined in the other
two quotes. In addition to architectural services, RVK will also act as the construction manager
for the warming house project and will oversee the day -to -day construction activities. Under the
RVK proposal, the City would be the general contractor and thereby eliminate the mark -up that
typically occurs by general contractor on subcontracts. The other two firms have proposed to act
as general contractor for this project. In acting as the general contractor, the City should more
than make up the cost difference between these quotes.
As the Council may remember, RVK Architects acted in this same capacity when the History
Center was added to City I -Iall. Staff recommends the award of the quote for architectural and
construction management services to RVK Architects.
1
