MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
SEPTEMBER 27, 2006
Blesener clarified that resolution of tonight's issue would not resolve the
court issue. The City Attorney replied thaC that was correct.
SedaghaC indicated that staying in business is what is most important to
him.
Keis indicated that a year's extension will not happen. He indicated that
he might support an extension of 60 days; for example, however, there is
no assurance that Sedaghat would make any progress during that time
period. Keis noted that if the City revokes the CUPS and does not renew
the licenses, there is the issue of what will be done with the cars. Keis
indicated that abatement becomes the City's problem and will cost the
City additional money.
Blesener pointed out the many assurances that Mr. Sedaghat has made in
the past that he will bring the property into compliance. Keis stated that
he did not want to grant an extension and then have Che same
conversations with Mr. Sedaghat again.
Sedaghat again asked for an extension through the winter and pointed out
that once it snows, no one will see the cars anyway. Blesener pointed out
that body shops do work in Che winter.
Allan noted that this conversation has been going on with Mr. Sedaghat
since July of 2000. She indicated that she supported revocation of the
Conditional Use Permits.
Keis and Blesener indicated that they were torn on the issue of granting
additional time. Keis pointed out that if any progress had been made and a
plan brought to the Counci] for bringing the property into compliance, he
would vote for an extension.
Sedaghat indicated that he would like to meet with each Council Member
on an individual basis. Montour noted that Sedaghat had the opportunity
over the past 90 days to contact individual Council Members.
Montour indicated that he could go either way on the request for an
extension, but noted that there has been little progress made on cleaning
up this property. Montour pointed out that this issue has cost the
taxpayers of Little Canada too much money to deal with Mr. Sedaghat's
problem. Montour indicated that either aclean-up plan with a very short
time period was needed, or the CUP's should be revoked and the licenses
not renewed.
13
