MINUTES
Planning Commission
August 13, 1987
City Center Collova reported that the Council would like the Planning Commission
Expansion to review the concept drawing and if they have any suggestions or
(Cont.) revisions, Collova requested that they contact him in the next two
weeks with their ideas.
Collova also pointed out that thought is being given to more public
use of the Council Chambers and the Council would like to be able
to lock off the rest of the building when the Chambers are being used
in the evening by the public.
Herkenhoff asked the size of the Chambers as proposed compared to the
current Council Chambers.
The Planner thought the size was about the same, but the shapes were
different. The Planner noted that the current shape of the Council
Chambers causes there to be a lot of wasted space, and the new
configuration uses space more efficiently.
Davison noted that the proposed Council table shows only 5 seats and
pointed out that there are 7 Planning Commission members.
The Planner thought that 7 seats could be placed around the proposed
Council table.
DeLonais asked if a basement was going to be provided under the new
addition, indicating that he recommended this be done. DeLonais
pointed out that this would provide additional space that could be
used in the future.
Timmons asked if it were possible to raise the addition so that a
raised lower level were possible. Timmons also stated that if the
City wants to encourage more public use of the Council Chambers,
she is not sure that the Chambers as proposed is large enough.
Herkenhoff suggested that the basement could be used for public use.
Timmons pointed out that fire codes might address that.
Collova agreed that there was a lot of cost involved in making a
basement usable for the public.
Timmons again stated that she did not feel the addition was large
enough if the City wanted to encourage public use.
Collova stated that he agreed if the City was going to put on an addition,
it should be used by the public. However, Collova pointed out that
the School District is also considering an addition to the Little Canada
Elementary School and thought is being given to some community rooms
in that addition.
At this point, however, Collova indicated that the Council is gathering
ideas and will then have an architect draw up the building plan.
Page 4
