It affects dogs of all ages, though pups suffer the most. Symptoms <br />include severe vomitting, anorexia, diarrhea (hemorrhagic) and rapid dehydration. <br />Mortality may run as high as 7.5 percent with some animals dying _of congestive heart <br />failure and _Ieaving recovered oun er do s with heart defects. <br />Canine Parvovirus spreads primarily through dogs by direct contact or contact with <br />fecal material. The virus can survive for years in the environment and is extremely <br />resistant to heat up to 180 °F. and disinfeciants..(a 10% solution of sodium hypo - <br />chlorite appears to be effective). <br />The infection was first implicated in many severe outbreaks of disease in 1978. It has <br />since been emerging,as an important disease throughout the world. <br />Canine parvovirus is now here in Minnesota and signs indicated that it is spreading <br />rapidly. A vacine is available and isgiven twice, two to four weeks apart.
