MINUTES <br />Planning Commission <br />Oct. 6, 1983 <br />Armon Plaza Mrs. Timmons pointed out that the Vitale sign has three sides. <br />Sign <br />Mr. Stern pointed out that Realty World has certain specifications <br />for the size of their signs. <br />Mrs. Timmons felt that the matter was too easily dealt with under <br />the ordinance. Timmons pointed out that the message board could he <br />reduced or eliminated. Timmons stated that the ordinance should be <br />the last thing changed when there is not a hardship. <br />Mr. Notto asked if something was negotiated with tor. Vitale, if he <br />would have to appear before the Planning Commission again. Mr. <br />DeLonais replied that the matter does not have to come back to the <br />Planning Commission if the ordinance is being complied with. <br />Mr. Notto asked how large the Vitale sign was. Mr. DeLonais <br />estimated that it was 216 square feet if all three sides were <br />counted. Mr. DeLonais pointed out that this would be in excess <br />of the ordinance. <br />Mr. Stern commented that if only one side of the sign were counted, <br />Realty World could get a pylon with a reader board in under the <br />ordinance. <br />Mr. Notto felt that he should stay with the larger sign and <br />eliminate the reader board. <br />Mr. Crittman stated that the way he determines the ordinance, all <br />sides of a sign are counted. Therefore, the Vitale sign is over <br />and above what is allowed. <br />Mr. DeLonais pointed out that the Planning Commission has not received <br />a copy of the revised sign ordinance. <br />Mrs. Timmons stated that when the sign ordinance was revised, the <br />Council listened to the wants of the business community and tried <br />to base the ordinance on this. Mrs. Timmons pointed out that the <br />Planning Commission needs a clarification of how many signs are <br />allowed. airs. Timmons felt that the conditional use permit could <br />be denied and Mr. Notto instructed to work within the ordinance. <br />Mr. DeLonais felt that the ordinance only dealt with one side of a <br />sign. <br />Mrs. Kingsbury did not feel that the Commission could go against <br />the sign ordinance in this case. <br />Mr. Ducharrne commented that the Planner could not give the Commission <br />an interpretation of the ordinance. <br />Mrs. Timmons also pointed out that the Commission has asked to see <br />the Planner's reports at least 10 days in advance to a meeting and <br />most of the members just received their information today. <br />Page —5— <br />
