page 6 <br />Personnel Ordinance <br />(f) Employees shall take Vacations only with the approval of their <br />immediate supervisor. Requests for vacation leave shall be approved in writing <br />by the Department Head. <br />(g) Vacations may be taken with concurrence of Department Heads at any time <br />during the calendar year, to a maximum of three (3) days beyond the accrued leave. <br />Should an employee leave the employ of the City before accruing vacation leave <br />equal to that used, such deficit will be withheld from any monies due such <br />employee, at the rate of one hour's pay for each hour of vacation leave deficit, <br />computed on the employees current hourly pay rate. Advance payment for vacation <br />leave to employees may not exceed the total vacation pay earned. <br />(h) Where vacations are specified in days, it shall be construed to mean the <br />normal eight (8) hour working day, and where any employee works other hours or <br />shifts, adjustments shall be made accordingly. <br />(i) Any employee who is laid off or who leaves the municipal service in <br />good standing after giving two weeks notice of such termination of employment, <br />shall be compensated for vacation leave accruded and unused prior to the date <br />of lay off or termination. An employee who is dismissed during a probationary <br />period or for just cause shall not be entitled to any vacation credit. <br />(j) Vacation leave shall not be granted in less than one -half day encrements. <br />Sec. 12: Sick Leave. <br />(a) Full time employees shall accrue sick leave benefits at the rate of <br />one and 1/2 working day for each calendar month of employment or major fraction <br />thereof. Permanent Part Time employees shall accrue sick leave benefits based on <br />the average number of hours worked per week by such employee and in accordance <br />with the following schedule: <br />Rate of Sick Leave Accrual Per <br />Average Hours Worked Calendar Month <br />Less than 20 0 <br />20 -23 3/4 day <br />24 or more 9/10 day <br />Sick leave pay shall be computed at the regular rate of pay to which such <br />employee is entitled. Sick leave shall not be granted to temporary employees. <br />(b) Sick leave may be accumulated to a maximum of 120 days. <br />(c) Sick leave may be granted only for absence from duty due to an illness <br />or injury of the employee which disables him /her from working. However, up to <br />three (3) days sick leave may be granted in case of death in the immediate <br />family, i.e., spouse, parents, spouse's parents, children, brothers, and sisters, <br />brothers -in -law, and sisters -in -law, and grandparents. <br />23 <br />
