MINUTES
Planning Commission
October 13, 1988
Centerville
Road Area
Park
(Cont.)
Herkenhoff suggested that the parking lots be adequately sized in the
beginning, so that they not need to be expanded, and trees and shrubs
disturbed.
Costa reported that he is not in favor of the location of the parking
lot where shown adjacent to DeSoto. Costa suggested that the parking
lot be located adjacent to the Montreal Courts garages. Costa also
pointed out that the property on the west side of Centerville Road is
at a higher elevation than the park, and these homeowners will be
looking down into the proposed parking lot.
Sanders pointed out that the parking lot would be screened.
Costa replied that it is still a parking lot. Costa also suggested that
at least a 50 foot buffer area be provided between the parking lots and
Centerville Road and DeSoto.
Sanders replied that there is a 50 foot buffer zone.
Costa asked if fencing was being proposed along DeSoto.
Sanders replied that there was no fencing proposed at this time.
Costa reported that he has lived in this area for many years, and he
currently farms the property on the east of DeSoto. Costa stated that
he did not want people walking across his fields to access the park and
felt a fence should be provided along DeSoto. Costa reported that he
has a large investment in his property, and needs protection. Costa
stated that he was totally against the location of the parking lot as
proposed.
Wehrle felt that having a park located across from the Costa property
would be a selling point for the property.
Costa stated that he was still opposed to the parking lot location and
felt there were other places the parking lot could be located. Costa
stated that he was not opposed to the park plan, but is opposed to the
parking lot location.
Wehrle pointed out that the parking lot would be more expensive if located
within the park.
Costa pointed out the large amount of money being spent to acquire the
property, and felt that the parking lot should be located properly.
Costa pointed out that he will have to live with the parking lot. Costa
also reported that his aunt owns property along Desoto and was also
opposed to the parking lot being located adjacent to the street.
Slim Frattalone reported that he owns property on the west side of Center-
ville Road, and he was opposed to the parking lot location on the west
side of the park. Frattalone felt that the driveway locations for the
parking lot would direct headlights right into the two homes he owns on
Centerville Road. Frattalone reported that he has enough problems dealing
with the freeway and Slumberland trucks, and did not want the parking lot
adjacent to Centerville Road.
Page 6
