MINUTES
Planning Commission
Nov. 8, 1984
St. Croix Mr. DeLonais recommended that the conditional use permit requested
Screenprinting by St. Croix Screen Printing be approved subject to the recommendations
(Cont.) of the City Planner.
Motion seconded by Mrs. Timmons.
Motion carried 7 - 0.
Text Mr. DeLonais questioned the necessity of eliminating auto salvage
Amendment from the City's ordinance. DeLonais pointed out that they are now
Auto Salvage regulated by the conditional use permit process. DeLonais stated
that if this is removed from the ordinance, when the R & S permit
expires in one year's time, they will be out -of- business.
The Planner stated that R & S would not be out -of- business, because
they would be grandfathered in.
Mrs. Timmons stated that she saw no reason to remove auto salvage
from the ordinance.
'The Planner stated that if the City does not want any more auto wrecking
yards, then they should he removed from the ordinance. Mr. Grittman
stated that if a business came in and requested a conditional use
permit for a salvage yard and the business met all the conditions of
the ordinance, then the City would have no basis to deny the request.
The Planner stated that if auto salvage yards are not wanted in the City,
the provision for them should be removed from the ordinance, otherwise
that provision will cause the city more trouble than it is worth.
Mrs. Timmons pointed out that a future Council could put the provision
back into the ordinance.
Mr. Davison asked if there has ever been any other type of business that
the City has not wanted. The Planner replied that any business not listed
in the ordinance is not allowed in the City.
The Planner pointed out that there is other light industrial property
in the City that someone could come in and make a request for auto
salvage.
Mrs. Kingsbury pointed out that if the provision was removed from
the ordinance, R & S could never expand nor rebuild if the need arose.
The Planner agreed.
Mrs. Timmons stated that she would like more direction from the Council
on why this matter was brought up.
Mr. Ducharme stated that the Council felt that they did not want any
other salvage yards in the City and this was the easiest way to handle
the situation.
Page -3-
A4
