MINUTES
Planning Commission
July 13, 1989
Mac's
Models Text
Amendment
(cont.)
Don Valento
Variance
Hoffman CUP
Mr. DeLonais moved that the Commission recommend that the
text amendment include radio - controlled vehicle track.
Motion seconded by Ms. Schweizer.
Motion carried 7 - 0.
Mr. Grittman indicated that Mr. Valento could not attend the
meeting. Mr. Grittman stated that Mr. Valento is requesting
a 25 foot front setback variance for three lots located on
Valento Lane due to the curve of the street. Mr. Grittman
indicated that one of the developers has a larger house that
they would like to see built on one of the lots.
Mr. Pedersen asked if Mr. Valento was concerned about the
esthetics or if he just wanted to be able to fit a larger
house on the lots. Mr. Grittman indicated that Mr.
Valento's rationale' was probably not the greatest variance
reasoning; however, Mr. Grittman felt that if the City is
disposed to approving the variance, Mr. Grittman wanted to
make sure that it is worded in such a way that it can be
defended in other cases.
Mr. Pedersen felt that when Mr. Valento originally drew out
the plans, he must have seen where the setbacks were going
to be.
Mr. Pedersen moved that the Commission recommend denial of
Don Valento's variance.
Motion seconded by Ms. Drabik.
Motion carried 6 - 1.
Mr. Grittman indicated that Mr. Hoffman is requesting
approval of a conditional use permit to add an addition onto
his existing garage. Mr. Grittman stated that typically the
requirements have been not to allow any commercial activity
within the garage and to make sure that the garage is
similar in style with the existing garage or house on the
property.
Mr. Costa asked what the garage would be used for.
Mr. Hoffman indicated that it would be used for a hobby
shop. Mr. Hoffman stated that he does not have a basement;
therefore, he would be using his garage for exercise
equipment and woodworking.
Page 6
