MINUTES <br />Planning Commission <br />August 10, 1989 <br />Tim Townsley, Iona Lane resident, indicated that he <br />preferred the alternative plan submitted as it provided a <br />larger setback from the residential homes on Iona Lane. <br />The Commission asked the purpose of the alternative plan. <br />Boosalis stated that he would like to have an alternative in <br />place in the event that approval of the original plan is not <br />finalized on August 23rd. Boosalis reported that he has a <br />potential tenant for the shopping center addition and he is <br />trying to meet a very tight occupancy date. <br />The Commission reviewed the alternative presented, but <br />stated that their preference is to see the original plan <br />developed. <br />Bendel recommended that the Commission finds the land usage <br />proposed in Plan B to be consistant with the original <br />finding of fact, but that the Commission takes the position <br />that Plan A is preferable to Plan B. <br />Motion seconded by DeLonais. <br />Motion carried 5 - 2. Drabik and Schweizer voting against. <br />SLUMBERLAND Jeff iisakka, Yorkton, Ltd., and Paul Kaufman, Slumberland, <br />PLAN REVIEW appeared before the Commission requesting plan review and <br />AND CUP approval of a conditional use permit for a 50,000 square <br />foot addition to the Slumberland facility as well as outside <br />trailer storage. Iisakka reported that the Slumberland <br />building is currently 150,000 square feet in size. The new <br />addition would be warehousing space. <br />Costa was concerned with the appearance of the Slumberland <br />property, pointing out the City's desire for an exclusive <br />industrial district. <br />The City Planner reviewed the requirements of the I -P <br />District which include additional landscaping, and higher <br />quality building materials. <br />Costa pointed out the lack of landscaping of the Slumberland <br />site as well as weeds, trash and concrete that are located <br />on the site. Costa was concerned with the appearance of the <br />holding pond. Costa also reported that residents in the <br />area are concerned with the amount of traffic on Centerville <br />Road to and from Slumberland, especially in the night hours. <br />Residents are also concerned about the storage of <br />semi - trailers on the site. <br />Page -7- <br />
