-2- <br />Position Profile <br />Little Canada <br />Youth recreation programs in Little Canada are conducted by the City Parks and <br />Recreation Department in close cooperation with the Little Canada Recreation <br />Association (a non - profit group of volunteers who conduct various fund - raisers <br />during the year, and who help to advise the direction of all youth programs.) <br />Membership is open to all interested adults within the City as well as those living <br />outside the City. The Association is a 40 member booster organization designed <br />to supplement the City budget from the proceeds of charitable gambling. Over <br />the past several years, in excess of one million dollars has been donated for <br />various community activities. <br />The Organization <br />In 1858, Little Canada became a Township, in 1953 a Village and in 1974 a City. <br />Little Canada is on Plan A Form of government which consists of 4 Council <br />Persons serving four year terms, and a Mayor serving a two year term. Serving <br />in other advisory capacities are the Attorney, Engineer, Planner, Planning <br />Commission and Parks and Recreation Commission. <br />City Council Meetings are held the second and fourth Wednesday of each month <br />at 7:30 p.m. at the Little Canada City Center, located at 515 E. Little Canada <br />Road, Little Canada, Minnesota 55117. <br />Services <br />Police protection is contracted with the Ramsey County Sheriff's Department, <br />which also provides service to North Oaks, Shoreview, Vadnais Heights, Arden <br />Hills, Falcon Heights, Lauderdale, Gem Lake and White Bear Township. Ambulance <br />service is provided by Health One. Fire protection is contracted with the Little <br />Canada Volunteer Fire Department, a privately held entity. The Ramsey County <br />District Court which serves Little Canada is located in Maplewood. <br />Sanitary sewer is available in all of Little Canada and municipal water is available <br />in most areas. Water is supplied by the St. Paul Water Board and sewage <br />treatment is through the Metropolitan Waste Control Commission (MWCC). Ramsey <br />County provides health inspection on a regular and as- needed basis. <br />As of September 1, 1989, organized garbage collection is provided by four haulers <br />under contract with the City. The haulers are also required to provide recycling <br />services which is currently subsidized by Ramsey County and will be paid for by <br />City residents as of January 1, 1990. <br />'RAGE 2 <br />
