MINUTES
PLANNING COMMISSION
November 9, 1989
pointed out that while the outdoor display of goods may
be appropriate in a retail area, it is not in a BW
District.
Bendel pointed out that Knox clearly advertises their
products through outdoor displays. Another company
doing the same thing is Sailboard Warehouse.
The Planner pointed out that the Knox property is zoned
PUD, and the Sailboard Warehouse property is zoned I -1.
Costa asked about retail sales that occur at
Slumberland.
The City Planner reported that Slumberland received
approval for accessory retail sales, however, have
never utilized it.
Wesch pointed out that under a CUP, if he was not
abiding by certain conditions, the City would have the
power to revoke the CUP.
DeLonais felt that if approval were granted for this
request, the situation would be difficult to control.
The Planner stated that his concern was that the
building is multi- tenant, and the other tenants could
decide to request the same use of the property. The
Planner was concerned about this occurring in a BW
District.
Drabik again pointed out the outdoor display by
Sailboard Warehouse.
The Planner replied if Sailboard Warehouse is
displaying product outside their building, it may be a
violation of the 'ordinances.
Pedersen was concerned about the appearance of the
display proposed by Wesch.
Wesch reported that he would not construct a display
that would be a detraction from his business.
Pedersen stated that it was hi,s feeling that the
display would not fit into the neighborhood.
Drabik stated that she agreed with Pedersen's feelings,
pointing out that there is residential property in this
area.
Page 3
