HANSON, Administrator
515 Little Canada Road
Little Canada, MN 55117
612-484-2177
FAX: 612-484-4538
CITY OF LITTLE CANADA
RAMSEY COUNTY, MINNESOTA
July 6, 1990
TO: Mayor Fahey and Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel R. Hanson, City Administrator
RE: Fire Hall /City Center Construction Update
•
MAYOR
Michael Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Sill Blesener
Rick Co!lova
Jim LaValle
Having just returned from vacation as of the date of this memo, I
discovered that the City has not received the construction documents
for our review as was scheduled for July 2nd. I have contacted both
Jim Beckwith of Kraus - Anderson and David Kroos of Boarman &
Associates to discuss the apparent delays in receiving the necessary
documents for our review. Based on my conversation with Mr. Kroos,
it is evident that the schedule previously submitted is not being
adhered to at this point in time. (Architectural drawings for the
City Hall project were just received this afternoon.)
As a result of this apparent delay and due to the need for us to be
kept properly informed, I have asked that both parties coordinate the
revision to the schedule and submit it to us by Wednesday's Council
meeting. I also made it very clear that the City must be kept
informed as to the status of the project, including decisions
involving design. Communication and coordination have been
emphasized to both firms. I have also expressed our concern in
getting the projects underway at an appropriate time so as to avoid
battling potentially inclement fall weather.
It should also be noted that a portion of this delay occurred due to
our decision to utilize the construction management process and in
subsequently obtaining the necessary estimates upon which
decision - making can be based. Mr. Kroos estimated that these two
factors delayed the design by approximately six weeks. He also
contends, that at this point in time, the decision to utilize the C -M
process has proven very beneficial to the City due to the evaluation
of various alternatives and proper information upon which decisions
can be based.
s•m
•- Page 4
