MINUTES <br />PLANNING COMMISSION <br />March 8, 1990 <br />compliance with the recommendations of the City Planner <br />as contained in his report dated March 5, 1990. <br />Motion seconded by DeLonais. <br />Motion carried 7 - 0. <br />AMEND PUD Mr. Bob Burrow, representing St. Jude Medical, appeared <br />ST. JUDE before the Commission requesting approval for an <br />MEDICAL amendment to a Planned Unit Development to allow the <br />construction of a 74,000 square foot, three -story <br />second phase building. Burrow described the location <br />of the St. Jude property and reported that the existing <br />access point will be maintained. Burrow reported that <br />St. Jude's is proposing to expand the parking area to <br />the north, and due to existing elevations, will need to <br />construct a retaining wall for the parking area. The <br />parking area will be lighted. <br />Burrow further reported that St. Jude's will clean up <br />the pond located on the west portion of their site as a <br />holding pond. They are also proposing to construct a <br />trail system within the site and to fence the entire <br />property due to vandalism problems that they have <br />experienced. Additional landscaping is proposed around <br />the service drive to block site lines into the loading <br />dock area. <br />Burrow pointed out the discussion in the City Planner's <br />report regarding an alternate access point at County <br />Road B -2. Burrow was not sure this would work since it <br />would require a lot of dirt to be moved. However, this <br />is being looked at as an option. <br />Burrow reported that in the future if the third phase <br />moves forward, St. Jude's would plan to construct a <br />parking deck over a portion of the existing parking <br />area. <br />Garske asked how many additional employees would be <br />added. <br />Burrow replied that there would be 300 additional <br />employees at the site brought in over a five -year <br />period. Burrow reported that all the positions are not <br />new ones, pointing out that St. Jude's currently leases <br />office space and would be bringing these employees to <br />the site. Burrow reported that St. Jude's employees <br />have flexible work schedules, therefore, they are not <br />Page 11 <br />
