Kaufman reported that the retail space
consists of 4,200 square feet and will be used to sell
clearance merchandise. Kaufman reported that this
issue was previously discussed in 1986 when the
Slumberland development plans were reviewed.
Costa asked the proposed hours of operation for the
retail operation.
Kaufman replied that the retail operation would be open
until 9 P.M. in the evenings.
Kaufman pointed out that the City Planner has raised
the issue of parking in his report indicating that 100
additional parking spaces are needed to meet Code
requirements. Kaufman felt the existing parking at the
Slumberland site was adequate to meet their needs.
Kaufman reported that furniture retailers do not get as
much traffic as other retail businesses, and pointed
out that most of the retail traffic to the site would
be after 5 P.M. or on weekends when most of the
employees are gone. Kaufman reported that Slumberland
expects Saturdays and Sundays to be their biggest
retail sales days.
The Planner pointed out that there is adequate room for
expansion of the current parking lot, and stated that
he is satisfied that the additional parking does not
need to be improved at this time as long as the City
has the perogative of requiring it in the future if the
current parking proves to be inadequate.
Costa asked the amount,
anticipates due to the
Kaufman anticipated 30
store on Saturdays and
of traffic levels Slumberland
retail operation.
cars each day to the retail
Sundays.
Costa was concerned that the traffic from the
Slumberland site has caused a loss of privacy for the
homeowners on Centerville Road. Costa felt the retail
operation would add to the problem. Costa also
reported that the Centerville Road homeowners are tired
of the semis running down Centerville Road day and
night.
Kaufman reported that he has never received a complaint
on this issue and reported that Slumberland has limited
the timing of trucks to and from their building to the
best of their ability.
