Arden Hills is a stable community with a majority of single family homes, <br />including a trailer court community. Arden Hills also is the home of several <br />large corporations and has several small strip malls, several restaurants and a <br />hotel. Arden Hills has one elementary, one high school and several city parks. <br />Arden Hills has one 24 hour squad. <br />While Little Canada is the third smallest city with 2,843 acres and population <br />of 9,119 residents, it generates more calls for service per capita than any other <br />contract city. Little Canada has a large percentage of multiple dwelling units. <br />The city has several industrial areas and a strip of retail stores along with <br />several mini malls, and many single businesses. Little Canada has four schools, <br />one elementary, one parochial, one middle and one school for "special needs" <br />children. Little Canada has one 24 hour squad. <br />White Bear Township is made up of 8,739 acres and the majority is single family <br />homes. Its area is spread out through White Bear Lake, The township still <br />has some undeveloped areas and has numerous city and county parks. White <br />Bear Township has two elementary schools located in the city. White Bear <br />Township has one 24 hour squad. <br />North Oaks is mainly residential area with single family housing. It has an area of <br />5,548 acres and many undeveloped areas. North Oaks currently is expanding its <br />developed areas. North Oaks is privately owned. North Oaks has several <br />schools within its boundaries and construction is being completed in '1991 on <br />several businesses. North Oaks has one squad 8 hours per day with coverage as <br />needed. <br />Lauderdale is one of our smaller communities with a population of 2,455. <br />lauderdale is already expanded to its limits. Its community is made up of both <br />single and multiple family dwellings. It has several business and industrial areas. <br />Gem Lake is mostly a rural community with 723 acres and a population of 397 <br />residents. Gem Lake has a small industrial area with a few retailers. Homes <br />are mostly single family. Gem lake shares a squad with Vadnais Heights. <br />Most of our communities' populations are still expanding. communities that <br />were once stable are giving way to new housing developments, areas that <br />were rural are becoming more populated. We are experiencing a high <br />turnover of residents new to the area. This would be an opportune time for <br />us to increase our Crime Prevention efforts. <br />4 <br />Page 19 <br />
