PARKS AND RECREATION DIRECTOR POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES Position: Department: Accountable To: Primary Objective: Major Areas of Accountability: Director of Parks and Recreation Parks and Recreation City Administrator To plan, organize, and administer a quality Parks and Recreation program which will provide facilities and leisure time activities which meet the needs of the citizens of Little Canada in an effective, economic, and timely manner. 1. Plans, organizes, implements and evaluates a wide variety of recreation, nature, and education activities for all ages and for all citizens. 2. Within the guidelines of the City's Comprehensive Plan for Parks and Recreation, develops long -range plans of Parks and Recreation facilities to assure maximum utilization of land, buildings, and money. Periodically reviews Comprehensive Park Plan and suggests revisions to the Park Commission. 3. Coordinates programming activities and maintains cooperative relationships with adjunct community groups and other agencies to enhance the City's recreational programming needs. 4. Hires, trains, supervises, disciplines and directs employees and volunteers under his /her control. Reviews and evaluates the performance of those departmental employees directly responsible to him /her on a regular basis. 5. Supervises develops and maintains a program of public recreational information which will keep them informed of available facilities and activities and fosters a good image of the Department. 6. Jointly plans and coordinates the maintenance of Parks and Recreation facilities with the Public Works Director to assure attractive, safe, and functional surroundings in an efficient and cost effective manner. May also involve the supervision of personnel to address specialized needs. Page 25
