DIRECTOR OF PARKS AND RECREATION <br />October 24, 1990 <br />Page Two <br />- Responsible for the planning of individual park sites and /or <br />supervises the work of park consultants retained to plan parks. <br />- Responsible for park land acquisitions including purchase and <br />leasing. <br />- Interact with citizens regarding their desires for park and <br />recreation facilities. <br />4. Provides advice and recommendations to the City Manager, to other <br />management staff members and to the City Council. <br />- Attends staff and City Council meetings as required. <br />- Prepare reports for the City Manager as required. <br />- Review proposals submitted by other management staff members and make <br />appropriate comments and recommendations. <br />- Maintain current knowledge of innovative ideas and developments and <br />recommends changes in current operations and practices where <br />applicable. <br />- Attends meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission or arranges for <br />staff attendance and acts as staff liaison. <br />- Serves as technical advisor to civic organizations and local school <br />districts. <br />5. Develops and administrates a public relations program to promote the <br />Parks and Recreation Department. <br />- Makes public presentations and deals with the public on an individual <br />basis. <br />- Gives presentations to civic and governmental organizations. <br />- Represents the City in metropolitan, State and National organizations <br />where the interest of the Maplewood community are involved. <br />- Oversees the advertising and press releases of the department. <br />- Works with other area recreation departments and community education <br />programs to insure coordination and elimination of duplication of <br />effort. <br />- Oversees the development and continuance of a program of public <br />information which will keep the public informed of the recreational <br />facilities and activities available to them. <br />6. Coordinates the recreational programs to provide a wide variety of <br />leisure activities. <br />- Works with the school districts to coordinate recreational programs <br />and to reduce duplication. <br />- Oversee the development and maintenance of park facilities for use by <br />recreational programs. <br />- Evaluates recreational programs on an on -going basis. <br />7. Oversees the maintenance of park facilities to assure attractive and <br />safe surroundings and maximum service at the most reasonable cost. <br />- Reviews park maintenance with appropriate departmental staff. <br />8. Oversees the programming and maintenance of the Maplewood Nature Center. <br />- Supervises staff to provide a wide variety of nature programs for the <br />community including the public and private schools, volunteer <br />organizations, clubs and other organizations. <br />Page 30 <br />
