MINUTES
PLANNING COMMISSION
JANUARY 10, 1991
Bendel asked why Costa Lane does not go out to
Vanderbie Road.
DeBace explained that this alternative was considered
as well, however, Mr. Bruhn does not support it since
ultimately he could end up with road frontage on three
sides of his property. DeBace reported that there was
also opposition from some of the other residents on
Vanderbie.
Bendel suggested that a walkway would increase the
value of the lots on the east side of Costa Lane since
there would be easy access to the adjacent park.
Peter Costa stated that he opposed the walkway paths.
Costa pointed out that people walk for miles and
questioned the problem with people walking a short
distance to a park. Costa felt walkways would have an
adverse effect on property values since there would be
a loss of privacy for the lots adjacent to the
walkways.
Pedersen felt there should be a walkway from Vanderbie
Road to Costa Lane.
Drabik pointed out that the Planning Commission has a
responsibility to the present and future citizens of
the City, and must plan for the needs of these
citizens.
Herkenhoff stated that if he lived next to a walkway,
he would be concerned with the people walking by his
yard.
Drabik suggested that there are people who would not
object to living next to a walkway. Drabik felt that
it would not make for good neighborhood relations to
have people trespassing through yards to access the
park.
Jim Michaud, resident of the area, stated that he would
not want a walkway next to his home. Michaud pointed
out that the access is needed by the residents on
Vanderbie, and pointed out that these people have not
been trespassing through Mr. Costa's fields to get to
the park.
Pedersen pointed out that the park is not finished yet
and pointed out the additional residents in the area
once the Costa property is developed.
Costa stated that people presently accessing the park
are using the existing streets to get to it.
Page 4
