MINUTES
PLANNING COMMISSION
JUNE 11, 1992
parking. DeLonais stated that most other Rainbow Foods
do not have green area adjacent to their buildings.
Stellick stated that if Rainbow does expand, he does
not know how they will want to expand, what kind of
parking layout they might want, etc.
DeLonais suggested that Stellick utilize "The Baby
Room" signage for Snyders until these details are
worked out. Once they are, DeLonais suggested that
Stellick come back with a proposal for how he would
like the signage to work. DeLonais suggested that it
might be feasible to install a second pylon sign near
the Burger King site.
Stellick thought a second pylon would block visibility
of the existing pylon. Stellick reported that all
tenants want as much signage as they can get. It is
not practical to give all tenants signage on Rice
Street, but there is the need to address signage for
the anchor tenants.
Stellick again explained his proposal for placing an
identification sign on top of the existing Rainbow
sign, and utilizing the panels currently identifying
the shopping center to identify Snyders.
Keis asked if the message board was necessary.
Stellick reported that the message board is highly
used, and felt that tenants would not be pleased if it
were removed.
Keis stated that he had no problem with allowing a
small sign on top of the Rainbow Foods sign which would
identify the shopping center, but suggested that there
be no additional changes to the pylon unless it is
brought into conformance with City Codes.
There was no one present wishing to comment on this
matter.
Keis recommended approval of a variance to the Sign
Ordinance to allow for an additional identification
sign on top of the existing pylon sign for The Market
Place Shopping Center at 2900 Rice Street as requested
by Mr. Jim Stellick subject to there being no
additional signage allowed without the approval of the
City.
Motion seconded by Carson.
Motion carried 5 - 0.
Page 3
