MINUTES
PLANNING COMMISSION
AUGUST 13, 1992
Herkenhoff stated that he recalled that neighbors of
the site had been complaining that the area needed to
be cleaned up.
The City Planner replied that there were some
complaints two or three years ago, but these had been
addressed by Slumberland.
Nina Costa, resident of the area, asked about
screening. Costa reported that she did not want to
look out her windows and see semi - trailers. Costa
reported that three years ago when Slumberland first
approached the City about semi - trailer parking, she
requested screening. Slumberland put up 5 -foot high
evergreen trees, which provide no screening.
Hagemen reported that Slumberland is proposing to
relocate the existing plantings to screen the expanded
semi - trailer parking. Hageman suggested that some ash
trees could be added to the evergreens.
Owen Hyland indicated he represents the property to the
south. Hyland reported that the Slumberland site is a
mess. Some of the semi - trailers that are there now are
in a state of disrepair, and he did not want to see
some more junky trailers brought in.
Drabik asked if the landscaping approved three years
ago was to have included a berm.
The Planner recalled that a berm was discussed, but was
not made a condition of the landscaping. The Planner
pointed out that Slumberland is proposing to move the
existing plantings further west to continue the
screening. The Planner agreed that the evergreen trees
were small and do not provide 100% screening at this
time.
Costa again stated that she did not want to see
semi - trailers from her windows.
DeLonais reported that he visited the Slumberland site,
and agreed that it is junky.
Herkenhoff asked if screening could be provided to
satisfy Ms. Costa.
Page 2
