c‘4, 9W mac. a
515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
(612) 484 -2177 / FAX: (612) 484 -4538
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor & City Council
FROM: Dave Harris, Public Works Superintendent
DATE: April 9, 1993
RE: 1993 Street Sweeping
MAYOR
Raymond G. Hanson
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
We received two quotes for spring sweeping. The first
quote was from Mike McPhillips, Inc. Their quote came in
at $56 per hour. Their fall sweeping costs are the same.
If McPhillips hauls away the debris, there is a $4 per ton
charge for hauling and disposal. The other quote received
was from Leier Maintenance Service. Their rate was $56 per
hour with an $8 per ton rate for disposal of sweepings.
The reason the quotations were called for with disposal is
that the EPA and the MPCA have determined that street
sweepings are hazardous waste and have to be dumped in
hazardous waste landfills or stored in an area away from
surface water, then tested for contaminants before they are
recycled.
At this point in time, I am pursuing other options for
possible dump storage sites and /or recycling. I have
contacted two companies who will get the information back
to me for your review at Wednesday's meeting. However, I
would like to recommend that the sweeping be given to
McPhillips, Inc. at $56 per hour for sweeping and $4 per
ton for hauling and disposal of sweeping debris. If I
cannot find another outlet or I am not able to exercise any
of the above options, they are the lowest cost for sweeping
and disposal.
DBH:kpv
Page 39
