MINUTES
PLANNING COMMISSION
APRIL 8, 1993
Schletty felt that the City could run into some
liability issues as a result of the Comp Plans being
out -of -date, and felt that the City needed something
relatively current to work with. Schletty stated that
perhaps it was possible to only take certain parts of
the plan and update it, specifically the redevelopment
areas of the City.
DeLonais felt that most of the work that is needed
deals with property on the west side of 35E. DeLonais
pointed out that updating the Comp Plan will take a lot
of time, and felt that the process was best started at
a workshop with the City Council to determine a
consensus of what should be done.
Schletty agreed that the Commission should meet with
the City Council to determine what is desired.
Schletty reported that he recently attended a new
planning commissioners seminar, and that seminar
stressed liability issues facing cities.
Keis felt that perhaps the Planning Commission should
determine what they want to see done first, and then
present that recommendation to the City Council.
Carson agreed that the City needs to deal with the west
side of the freeway.
Knudsen indicated that the current plan is out -of -date
and felt that to be effective, the City must have a
current plan.
Carson pointed out the proposal for a law office
presented this evening. Carson suggested that perhaps
the City would decide that a larger area at the
intersection of Little Canada Road and Centerville Road
should be rezoned. This would be included in the Comp
Plan, and when a proposal such as the law office one
comes in, the City would have something to refer back
to to make sure such a proposal is what the City wants
and would not prevent something better from happening
in the area.
DeLonais asked if the City would have to rezone based
on what happens with the Comp Plan.
The City Planner replied that zoning would follow the
City's land use plan. Zoning is a tool used to
accomplish planning goals. The first step is to
determine what those planning goals are.
DeLonais reported that there is a developer looking at
the Country Drive area.
Page 9
Page 18
