MINUTES
PLANNING COMMISSION
August 12, 1993
Recreation Commission with regard to park charge.
Motion seconded by Carson.
Motion carried 7 - 0.
CUP FOR Mr. Stewart Chazin appeared before the Commission
DRIVEWAY requesting approval of a Conditional Use Permit to
RELOCATION amend a PUD to allow the relocation of an existing
THE MARKET driveway at The Market Place Shopping Center.
PLACE
SHOPPING DeLonais asked about the width of the driveway as well
CENTER as plans for landscaping.
Chazin reported that he submitted a landscaping plan to
the City Planner yesterday. Chazin reported their
willingness to landscape, and indicated that the
current driveway width is 30 feet. However, if Code
allows a 25 foot width, he would prefer to reduce the
width of the driveway.
Keis asked why there was the need for more parking.
Chazin reported the need for more parking adjacent to
Rainbow Foods. Chazin reported that Rainbow's lease
expires in 2 1/2 years, and the shopping center is
doing whatever it can to retain this business. Rainbow
has asked for more parking adjacent to their front
door.
Garske expressed concern about the site line for
vehicles coming from the south on Rice Street.
Chazin replied that they are proposing to extend the
deceleration lane further to the south.
The City Planner reported that MN DOT's design
engineers will have to review and approve the
deceleration lane.
DeLonais pointed out that the deceleration lane is
already 12 feet wide.
Chazin replied that they are requesting that the lane
be lengthened, not widened.
Garske expressed concern that a 30 foot driveway width
would be adequate, and suggested 40 feet.
_'The City Planner reported that the minimum Code
requirement is 24 foot width, but the City can require
a larger width if it is felt necessary.
