Mayor & City Council
October 8, 1993
Page 2
In discussing this program with the Fire Chief, some last
minute revisions will be made before it is fully
implemented. However, I feel the concept is a good one and
by undertaking this program, we will be able to properly
address hazardous conditions which may exist within the
community.
Regarding the staffing of the program, I feel that we
should utilize part -time inspectors that will be serving at
the will of the City. Once we make the initial run through
of all commercial /industrial properties within the City,
the work load should lighten dramatically. Therefore, the
need to maintain personnel will be minimized. As a result,
I feel hiring a few part -time inspectors provides some
advantages to us in that PERA costs can be avoided and the
likelihood of paying unemployment insurance is minimized.
Should we hire one person on a more regular basis, we would
most likely be subjected to those costs.
I hope this information gives you a better understanding of
the intent of the fire inspection program. Should you have
any comments or questions after reviewing this material,
please let me know.
JRH:kpv
Enclosures
Page 44a
