Hanson
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
For the purpose of documenting my files, I wanted to write
to confirm my understanding of our conversation held on
December 1, 1993. Specifically, you indicated to me that
as long as the lump sum benefit increase was allowable
under the old law, that benefit amount would be
grandfathered in. The benefits would not have to be
reduced even though the benefit level would not be in
compliance with the new law passed in May of 1993.
However, no increase will be allowable until compliance
with the new schedule for maximum benefits payable based on
average available financing per active firefighter is
obtained. Therefore, the increase in benefits to $2,050
per year of service by the Little Canada Relief Association
which was effective on May 12, 1993 will stand based on the
1993 average available financing per firefighter of $1,224
as reported on Schedule II filed in August of 1992.
Please advise me in writing if my understanding is
incorrect. If I do not hear from you by December 15,
1993, I will assume my understanding is accurate.
Thank you for your help in clarifying this matter for us.
JRH:kpv
Sincerely,
Joe R.
