MINUTES
PLANNING COMMISSION
SEPTEMBER 12, 2013
Vehicles Sales and Repair ". He further recommended that the
Commission consider the option of limiting the combination of licenses as
outlined in the report.
Duray asked if there was a limitation on Motor Vehicles Sales Outdoor
licenses. The City Clerk reported that there is a limitation of four outdoor
sales licenses, and one may be available at this time.
Maleitzke asked if the Planner's recommendation was consistent with
other cities. The City Planner reported that the Auto Repair /Auto
Sales /Outdoor Storage issues are unique to Little Canada and Ryan
Industrial Park.
With regard to the limitations on the combinations of licenses that the
Planner recommended, Duray asked if this would apply to new businesses
only. The Planner replied that that is correct. Current businesses would
be able to maintain their existing licenses provided they are in compliance
with the terms of their CUPs.
Maleitze asked what the Planner's recommendation would be. The
Planner stated that he felt limiting the combinations of licenses is
appropriate. The Planner noted that a typical car dealership does not have
outdoor storage of parts. Parts are stored indoors. The Planner also
indicated that the idea that outdoor storage is a necessary part of an auto
repair business is not necessarily true. He indicated that it is just the style
under which the businesses in Ryan Industrial Park operate.
With regard to the combination of licenses, Barraclough stated that he can
see the connection between an auto repair business and auto sales
business. He could also see the connection between a salvage repair
business and outdoor storage.
Duray suggested that a workshop meeting may be necessary with the City
Council to discuss these various options. The Planner indicated that a
workshop could be held or the Commission can make a recommendation
to the Council for their review in considering this matter.
With regard to the consideration of additional limitations on outdoor
storage for salvage repair as noted in the Planner's report, Fischer pointed
out the Planner's comments that the current outdoor storage regulations
appear reasonable and that the issue was compliance with those
regulations. The Planner stated that that was his impression, although he
recommended some additional language relative to storage of parts for
salvage sales and repair. With regard to outdoor storage in general,
Barraclough stated that he was not sure more limitations would be the
answer. The Planner noted that when the Code was updated a few years
-4-
