MINUTES
PLANNING COMMISSION
APRIL 14, 1994
Van Wormer reported some concern with the orientation
of the drive onto Country Drive. Van Wormer suggested
that it be made more 90 degrees which will provide for
better turning patterns onto Country Drive while still
allowing traffic to turn into the SA site from Country
Drive.
Van Wormer reported on access to the site for trash
collecting, tanker and delivery trucks, noting that
access is possible and can be coordinated to occur
during off -peak hours.
Van Wormer stated that, in summary, there are some on-
site problems that will have to be worked with, but
there is the opportunity for the site to work
relatively smoothly. Van Wormer stated that the amount
of additional traffic that will be generated by
SuperAmerica as opposed to a sit -down restaurant is
relatively small, especially compared to the total
volumes already on Little Canada Road. Van Wormer
pointed out that the 800 trips that he estimated for
restaurant traffic is the amount that could be expected
for a 16 or 24 -hour per day restaurant, not the amount
currently being generated by Grumpy's.
DeLonais reported that he and the Mayor have discussed
the SA proposal with the County's Public Works
Department, and they suggested that access of the SA
site could be restricted to right -hand turns in and out
similar to what was done at the northeast corner of the
intersection. The County traffic engineer agreed.
Van Wormer stated that the traffic volumes shown in the
traffic study will not have a significant impact on the
area. Van Wormer pointed out that banning eastbound
traffic from turning left into the SA site would force
that traffic to make a left turn onto Country Drive and
then into the SA site. This may result in a worse
situation.
Garske asked what would happen if Country Drive was
backed up with vehicles trying to turn left into the SA
site.
Van Wormer stated that the area will be tight, but if
the vehicles waiting to turn left into SA from Country
Drive are near the centerline, there would be room for
vehicles to go around. There is storage capacity for 6
7
