MINUTES
PLANNING COMMISSION
JULY 14, 1994
Little Canada Road. The Council denied the request and
suggested that the business locate within an I -1
District. DeLonais asked the number of employees the
Abra facility would have.
McPherson reported that there would be 8 or 9
employees.
DeLonais reported that he visited the Abra facility on
Highway 61 and counted 60 cars in the parking lot.
McPherson reported that that facility is 12,000 square
feet in size, and the property is zoned differently.
McPherson reported that Abra has different types of
facilities which meet different demands.
John Grabelson, representing Abra, suggested that the
City could place restrictions on where damaged vehicles
are parked. Parking of these vehicles could be limited
to the rear of the property within a screened area.
Grabelson reported that the Abra facilities are good -
looking facilities, and Abra is a state -of- the -art
operation. Abra has 19 facilities in the Metro area
and 7 out -state locations.
McPherson reported that it is very important to Abra
that they represent themselves well. Abra is not
opposed to complying with any reasonable request the
City might make.
Dennis O'Connell, Suburban Auto Body, reported that he
is a direct competitor of Abra, and suggested that Abra
does both minor and major auto body work. O'Connell
reported that he does not like to park damaged vehicles
outside his facility, however, this does happen,
especially during the day when it is busy.
Grabelson suggested that the City restrict parking to
the rear of the property within a screened -in area.
Vehicles would not be seen from the road. Grabelson
pointed out that the Abra buildings are very attractive
and compatible with the surrounding uses along Rice
Street. Grabelson stated that Abra has taken the auto
body business above the stereotype and up to the next
level.
O'Connell again indicated that Abra would be doing both
minor and major auto body work.
8
Page 17
