MINUTES <br />City Council <br />August 26, 1989 <br />Ballfields <br />Agenda <br />Item No. 18b <br />Celebrate MN <br />Agenda <br />Addition <br />RECOMMENDATION TO THE CITY COUNCIL FOR A <br />LOCATION, WITH THAT LOCATION NOT TO BE ON <br />CITY PARK PROPERTY <br />The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Mr. Fahey. <br />Ayes (41 Scalze, Collova, Blesener, LaValle. <br />Nays (1) Fahey. <br />Resolution declared adopted. <br />Scalze reported that the Park Commission has recommended that ballfields <br />in Pioneer Park have a depth of 300 feet based on the recommendation of <br />the Recreation Director as well as recommendations of other recreation <br />directors from other cities. <br />Fahey reported that his opposition to this was that it would take usable <br />park land. <br />Blesener pointed out that 300 foot fields make the park land more usable <br />since soccer fields and football fields can become joint uses of the <br />ballfield area. <br />Fahey stated that after reviewing this information and that from the <br />Recreation Director, he was in favor of the 300 foot fields. <br />Scalze stated that her only concern was that fields not he monopolized by <br />tournament use and that there be a mixed use of the fields. <br />Mrs. Scalze introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: <br />RESOLUTION NO. 89 -4 -178 - AMENDING THE COUNCIL'S <br />PREVIOUS RESOLUTION AND APPROVING 300 FOOT BALLFIELDS <br />FOR PIONEER PARK BASED ON THE RECOMMENDATION OF THE <br />CITY'S RECREATION DIRECTOR AS WELL AS OTHER RECREATION <br />DIRECTORS, BUT REQUIRING THAT PROGRAMMING OF THE <br />FIELDS GIVE FIRST PRIORITY TO TEAMS THAT LIVE OR <br />WORK IN LITTLE CANADA WITH EQUAL USE TO YOUTH, ADULTS, <br />AND MEN'S AND WOMEN'S TEAMS WITH A RESTRICTION ON THE <br />AMOUNT OF TOURNAMENT USE ON THE WEEKENDS SINCE THE <br />PARK IS LOCATED WITHIN A RESIDENTIAL AREA <br />The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Mr. Biesener. <br />Ayes (5) Scalze, Fahey, Biesener, Collova, LaValle. <br />Nays (0). <br />Resolution declared adopted. <br />Scalze reported that as part of the Celebrate MN <br />will be improved on the west side of DeSoto from <br />to Pioneer Park. The City has submitted a grant <br />North Suburban Youth Association for this trail, <br />Page -30- <br />1990 program a trail <br />the Little Canada School <br />application to the <br />however, they tabled <br />Page 234 <br />
