Hanson
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
DATE: October 20, 1994
TO: Mayor Hanson and Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator
RE: City Administrator Performance Review
Over one year has lapsed since my last performance review. Due
to the budget workshops we've been having before our regular
Council Meetings, it appears to me that a special
meeting /workshop will be necessary to conduct this review unless
we wait until December. It would be my recommendation that we
hold this meeting on Monday, November 14 or Thursday, November
17. The time of the meeting would be up to you. One thought to
keep in mind is the option of having a budget workshop following
this meeting should that appear necessary based upon the results
of our workshop of November 9. Please bring your calendars to
pick a date that you feel is most appropriate.
For the review itself, Kathy Glanzer will distribute the forms
which have been used in the past which were furnished by the
Brimeyer Group. A couple of additional points to consider are as
follows:
• In today's environment, employee feedback is becoming more
common in reviews such as this. Perhaps the Council would
like to have a format for soliciting employee feedback to
aid you in conducting my review. If so, we would need to
develop or obtain this information for distribution to
employees.
• To assist me in the performance of my job, I would like
the Council to establish some specific goals for the next
calendar year. This is a process I utilize in evaluating the
other employees and I feel it would be appropriate to do so
with me. I also feel it would be a good way to develop
consensus on our most important priorities.
If you have any comments or ideas as to how this review should be
conducted, we should discuss them at Wednesday's meeting.
JRH /mbg
Page 106
