Northwest Associated Consultants, Inc.
U R B A N P L A N N I N G D E S I G N M A R K E T R E S E A R C H
MEMORANDUM
TO: Little Canada Planning Commission
FROM: Stephen Grittman
DATE: 1 December 1994
RE: Little Canada - Rice at C Center - Sign Permit
FILE NO: 758.09 - 94.39
The current owners of Rice at C Center have applied for a Conditional Use Permit to allow a
second freestanding sign on the shopping center property. A previous second sign for the Center
had been approved in 1990, but was never constructed. At that time, the City developed a
number of additional policies for the consideration of a second freestanding sign for a shopping
center. Prior to that amendment, the Ordinance required a Conditional Use Permit, but had not
specific standards by which to measure applications. The 1990 amendment added the following
regulations in the consideration of the second freestanding sign:
(1) Only one sign per street frontage. Lot shall have at least five
hundred feet of total street frontage to be allowed two freestanding
signs.
(2) Identification signs may be located no closer than five feet to any
street right -of -way.
(3) Where more than one shopping center identification sign is to be
located on such property, no such sign shall be located Less than
forty feet from point of intersection of property lines.
In addition to these regulations, the remainder of the sign ordinance requirements apply as well.
5775 Wayzata Blvd. • Suite 555 St. Louis Park, MN 55416 (612) 595- 9636•Fax. 595 -9837
Page 16
