Telephone Survey Methods
• We will use our own professional interviewers and on -site
centralized telephone interviewing facilities to conduct high
quality telephone surveys. Our professional interviewers
have had years of experience conducting interviews and are
particularly experienced in research for government and public
agencies.
♦ We will brief interviewers at the beginning of the project to
inform them of the purpose of the study, review the survey
instrument, role -play the interviewing process, and answer any
questions they may have at the outset of the project.
• Calls will be made at varying times of the day and on
different days of the week to ensure that every conceivable
attempt is made to contact the original sample.
• Interviewing will be carefully monitored by interviewer
supervisors using electronic monitoring equipment.
♦ We will debrief interviews at the conclusion of data
collection.
Mail Survey Methods
The series of steps we use for mail data collection is outlined
below:
1. Initial Mailing
An initial questionnaire and cover letter will be sent by first -
class mail. A pre - addressed, postage -paid retum envelope
will also be enclosed. We have budgeted $.29 per survey for
outgoing postage.
Surveys will be mailed using City of Little Canada letterhead;
we will print envelopes using that name but with our address
so undeliverable mail will be retumed to us.
2. Follow -up
Those who do not respond to the initial mailing will be sent a
reminder postcard. Those who still do not respond will be sent
an additional mail follow -up reminder, which will include
another copy of the questionnaire.
The next phase of data collection involves contacting any
remaining nonrespondents by telephone to encourage their
participation. Finally, those who do not respond by mail, even
after being reminded by telephone, are invited to complete the
survey over the telephone with an Anderson - Niebuhr
interviewer.
Page 18 10
