MINUTES
PLANNING COMMISSION
MARCH 10, 1994
Keis felt that most of the P.M. traffic would be left
turn in since most of that traffic is coming from the
west.
Marshall reported that the traffic counts for Little
Canada Road are 14,000 vehicles per day, but he did not
have any further breakdown than that. Marshall again
stated that if a left turn into the site is too
difficult, those customers will use Sinclair rather
than SuperAmerica.
Carson asked how SuperAmerica expected cars to get off
Country Drive in the evening. Carson pointed out that
in the evening it is not unusual to see 30 cars backed
up on Country Drive. This would extend past the
SuperAmerica exit to Country Drive.
Marshall felt if it were impossible to access Country
Drive, cars would circle around the pumps and exit on
Little Canada Road.
Carson stated that in the P.M. peak hours it would be
impossible to make a left turn onto Little Canada Road.
Marshall again stated that if access is too difficult,
people will not use the store.
Keis asked if the traffic signals would be changed to
move traffic through the area more quickly.
Marshall reported that it is possible to look at the
traffic signal and see if the timing could be improved.
If a more detailed traffic study is required, Marshall
indicated that this is one of the things his firm would
look at. Increasing green time on the lights would
help mitigate the problem.
Carson reported that he has a difficult time making a
left turn onto Little Canada Road from the Olson,
Thielen parking lot and they are located 50 feet
further west on Little Canada Road. Carson questioned
what improvements traffic studies will identify to help
the situation.
Marshall replied that whatever issues are identified,
the traffic study would try to address. A study would
include a look at traffic counts, signal operations,
3
