Holidays <br />A. The City observes the following to be official holidays for <br />all permanent full -time and permanent part -time employees: <br />New Year's Day; <br />Martin Luther King's Birthday, <br />The third Monday in January; <br />President's Day, the third <br />Monday in February; <br />Memorial Day, the last Monday in May; <br />Independence Day, July 4th; <br />Labor Day, the first Monday in <br />September; <br />Veterans' Day, November llth; <br />Thanksgiving Day, the fourth <br />Thursday in November; <br />Day after Thanksgiving Day; <br />Christmas Eve, December 24th *; <br />Christmas Day, December 25th. <br />*In years within which Christmas Eve falls on a Saturday or <br />Sunday, permanent full -time and permanent part -time <br />employees will be granted a floating holiday in lieu of the <br />Christmas Eve holiday. This floating holiday can be used at <br />the discretion of the employee within the calendar year, <br />subject to approval of the department head. <br />B. All official holidays shall be considered to commence at the <br />beginning of the first shift of the day on which the holiday <br />is observed and continue for twenty -four (24) hours <br />thereafter. <br />C. When a holiday falls on a Sunday, the following Monday shall <br />be a holiday and when a holiday falls on a Saturday, the <br />preceding Friday shall be a holiday. Note the exception <br />outlined above for the Christmas Eve holiday in years within <br />which Christmas Eve falls on a Saturday or Sunday. <br />D. Permanent part -time employees other than seasonal or <br />temporary will be granted pro -rated holiday pay for each <br />holiday based on the average number of hours worked in the <br />preceding month, and subject to the criteria described above <br />for permanent full -time employees. <br />E. Any permanent full -time employee, as well as permanent part - <br />time, other than the City Administrator, Superintendent of <br />Public Works, and Park & Recreation Director, who is <br />required to work on any of the above -named holidays, shall <br />be paid for each hour worked on the holiday at their regular <br />rate of pay plus time and one /half. This rate of pay <br />includes the holiday pay referred to above. This handbook <br />and this provision do not apply to Department Heads hired <br />20 <br />Page 52 <br />
