four (4) weeks advance notice at the discretion of the
department head. However, as much advance notice as
possible should be provided by the employee in order for the
City to efficiently schedule vacations.
C. Employees may use vacation time, after completing three (3)
months of employment, as it is earned.
D. Employees are allowed to carry -over into the succeeding
calendar year an amount equal to the employee's annual
vacation accrual rate. Special written authorization from
the City Administrator must be granted to accumulate
vacation in excess of this rate.
E. When requesting use of vacation time, the vacation request
form must be completed and approved by the employee's
supervisor. One copy of this form is kept with the
employee's time card and the other is returned to the
employee, either (a) approved or (b) not approved with an
explanation.
F. No employee shall accrue vacation credit during any period
of suspension, lay off, leave of absence, or other off -
payroll status.
G. Any employee who is laid off or who leaves the municipal
service in good standing after giving two weeks notice of
such termination of employment, shall be compensated for
vacation leave accrued and unused prior to the date of lay
off or termination. Any employee who is dismissed during a
learning and evaluation period shall not be entitled to any
vacation credit.
H. Vacation leave shall not be granted in less than one -half
day increments, unless specifically approved by the
department head.
I. Vacation time cannot be combined with normally worked hours
in a manner that will generate overtime pay for the
employee.
J. In lieu of hours worked in excess of forty (40) per week
that the positions of City Administrator, Public Works
Superintendent, and Parks & Recreation Director positions
typically demand, one week's vacation will be added to the
standard vacation schedule for these employees on an annual
basis subject to satisfactory performance as deemed by the
position's respective supervisor. This handbook and this
provision do not apply to Department Heads hired after July
12, 1995.
Funeral Leave
22
Page 54
