MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
MARCH 22, 1994
address run -off concerns.
Prison pointed out that the City is proposing a 32 -foot
wide street and asked the current street width.
The Engineer felt the widths varied between 30 and 32
feet, and the City Administrator reported that there is
a 26 foot paved width in front of Bill Bruce's house.
The Engineer pointed out that 32 feet would allow
vehicles to park on one side of the street and two cars
to pass. The Engineer did not anticipate that there
would be a lot of on- street parking. The Engineer felt
that a 32 foot width was necessary to carry traffic
safely.
A property owner reported that his house was 24 feet
from the existing street and was concerned about losing
his front yard.
The Engineer reported that the improvement would be
done within the existing right -of -way, otherwise
additional easement would have to be acquired.
Demont pointed out that street salt would be a poison
going into Savage Lake.
Scalze stated that the Watershed does not require curb
and gutter, it is the City's policy to make this
requirement.
Buechler felt it better to let surface water run -off be
absorbed along the boulevards, than to pipe it directly
into the pond.
Waite was concerned that Savage Lake could not handle
the additional run -off.
The City Engineer replied that no more water will be
directed into the pond. The Engineer indicated that
the drainage district remains the same regardless of
whether there is storm sewer in the area or drainage
districts.
Waite pointed out that currently run -off is absorbed
into the boulevards, whereas the proposal is to send
the run -off directly into Savage Lake.
35
Page 110
