MINUTES
PLANNING COMMISSION
SEPTEMBER 14, 1995
interested in providing developable land to Maplewood
for a park. The Planner pointed out that he is not
sure how much of the Scully property is developable and
how much is wetland.
Garske asked if Maplewood would have to annex the land
to their city.
The Planner replied that Maplewood could own the land
and operate it as a part even though it remained part
of Little Canada.
Schletty asked if this was an issue for the Planning
Commission.
The City Planner felt that the Commission should
comment on whether open space was an appropriate use of
the land.
Scully estimated that 6 to 8 acres of the 27 acre
parcel was wetland. Scully also pointed out that the
City has road access to the site via Beam Avenue.
Scully commented that he would rather see the site
retained as open space or a park than developed with
houses. The City of Maplewood is looking for park land
close to their residential development. Scully also
wanted it clear that the City of Maplewood approached
him on this issue, not the other way around. Scully
reported that his family is interested in selling the
property since it is becoming too expensive to retain
due to the property taxes. The property may be listed
with a realtor soon.
Garske asked if the unbuildable area could be sold to
Maplewood.
Scully reported that Maplewood indicated that they
would get together with Little Canada to discuss the
options.
Mr. DeLonais recommended that City Staff study the
matter and make a recommendation.
Motion seconded by Garske.
Motion carried 4 - 0.
2
Page 73
