buildings. This will save the City's General Fund Budget
$1,850 based on 1996 projections. This service is provided
by Bellaire Sanitation.
*Formalized clean -up day arrangements whereby Woodlake
Sanitatary Service will provide a once per year clean -up day
at no cost to the City. Rates to be charged residents at
the drop -off site will be arrived at in conjunction with
City staff. This will maintain the same program we have had
in place the last few years.
*Clarified that construction materials requiring the use of
a dumpster can be purchased under open pricing. This means
that a resident can contract with any hauler licensed in the
City to provide this service.
*Increased insurance limits consistent with contracts
existing in other Ramsey County jurisdictions.
*Provided for an annual weight estimate of refuse collected
based on actual weights collected during the month of
August. This will help us with future reporting
requirements. August was felt to be the best month on which
this estimate should be based.
*Included a provision that all refuse collected in Little
Canada must be disposed at an approved facility.
(Eliminated concern with out -of -state disposal.)
*Achieved a reduction in monthly cost for recycling services
from $2.25 to $2.00.
*Achieved an increase in the number of items accepted for
recycling through the addition magazines and junk mail.
Woodlake Sanitatio Services will also place a dumpster at
City Hall during July for recycling of phone books.
*Achieved free recycling pick -up at City Hall to be provided
by Bellaire Sanitation.
One other issue that was discussed related to the commingling of
recyclables. All haulers indicated that they will maintain
separation of recyclables during pick -up. Bellaire Sanitation
indicated to us that they had been commingling for a period of
time due to equipment problems. Those problems have been
corrected, and commingling will not take place in the future.
I would also like to commend John Pechman for his work in
obtaining the information we used in negotiating this renewal.
Kathy Glanzer and Kris VanSchoonhoven are also to be commended
for their assistance in arriving at an exceptional organized
collection contract.
Page 72
