MINUTES
PLANNING COMMISSION
OCTOBER 12, 1995
Knudsen agreed it would make sense to move DeSoto
Street further east when it is developed.
The City Planner reported that there is 33 feet of
right -of -way existing for DeSoto Street north of Allen
Avenue. Slumberland should be required to dedicate an
additional 17 feet so that there is a 50 foot right -of-
way width.
Garske asked if Slumberland would be changing the
nature of their business.
Slumberland replied that they would not. The
additional warehouse space will ease crowding within
the building.
Garske recommended approval of the amendment to PUD
Agreement to allow the construction of an over 40,000
square foot addition to the existing Slumberland
building subject to compliance with the recommendations
of the City Planner as outlined in his report dated
October 6, 1995.
Motion seconded by Knudsen.
Motion carried 4 - 0.
,ARCHITECTURAL The City Planner reported that Steve Grittman will be
CONTROLS contacting each of the Planning Commission members to
set up workshop meetings for the purpose of development
architectural design guidelines. The Planner submitted
a memo dated October 11, 1995 which lists specific
design features which may be subject to City review and
regulation, and suggested that the Commission use this
listing to start thinking about the issue.
DeLonais pointed out that the Council direction is that
the Planning Commission will serve as the architectural
design review board. DeLonais reported that there is a
Community Pride Committee meeting scheduled for next
week, and that Committee, as well as the City Council,
will be asked for their input on architectural
controls.
Knudsen asked how architectural controls relate to the
Rice Street /Little Canada Road redevelopment project.
2
Page 15
