GRIEVANCE PROCEDURE <br />It is the policy of the City to address all complaints and <br />grievances fairly and as soon as possible. Every effort will be <br />made to address grievances in such a manner as to be satisfactory <br />to the employee and his /her supervisor. Employees will be free <br />from restraint, interference, discrimination or reprisal in their <br />presentation of complaints and grievances. <br />Each employee of the City of Little Canada should become familiar <br />with the complaint and grievance procedure steps outlined here. <br />Definitions: <br />A. Complaint: A formal, verbal comment, observation, or <br />opinion of a critical nature made by an employee to <br />his /her supervisor regarding any work condition. <br />B. Grievance: A dispute or disagreement raised in writing <br />by an employee or group of employees against his /her <br />department and /or the City because of an interpretation <br />of the City personnel policies, any alleged violation <br />of the policies, or any disciplinary action. <br />Complaint Procedure: <br />Any employee may present a formal verbal complaint to the <br />employee's supervisor as soon as possible, preferably within five <br />working days of occurrence. The employee must advise his /her <br />supervisor that the complaint is formal in nature. It shall then <br />be the responsibility of the supervisor to respond to the <br />complaint within five working days of receipt and to keep a <br />written record of each complaint. If the employee indicates that <br />the response is not satisfactory, the supervisor will then refer <br />the complaint, along with all pertinent background information, <br />to the City Administrator. <br />Once a formal complaint is received by the City Administrator, it <br />is his /her responsibility to investigate and seek a solution to <br />the problem. The City Administrator shall discuss the problem <br />with the supervisor, employee, and others who may have knowledge <br />of the facts involved, and recommend a solution. The City <br />Administrator shall give an oral answer within five working days <br />of the time the complaint was presented to him /her by the <br />supervisor. <br />Grievance Procedure: <br />A.
