DEFINITIONS <br />The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this policy, <br />shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except <br />where the context clearly indicates a different meaning: <br />Compensatory Time - Time off in lieu of paid compensation at the <br />rate of one and one -half hours for each hour worked in excess of <br />forty hours per week. <br />Employee - a person legally holding a position in the City <br />service. <br />Employer - the City of Little Canada. <br />Learning & Evaluation Period - a specified period of time at the <br />beginning of employment (or beginning period of a promotion) that <br />is designated as a trial period. The learning period is <br />considered the last part of the selection process. <br />Outside Employment - employment of any kind engaged in by a City <br />employee for which compensation is received from a source other <br />than the City. <br />Over -Time - Work beyond the normally scheduled forty (40) hours <br />of work per week. Paid at a rate of one and one -half the regular <br />hourly wage for each additional hour worked. <br />Permanent Part -Time Employee - an employee who normally works <br />less than forty (40) hours per week, and whose position is <br />designated as continuing on a regular basis. <br />Promotion - any movement of an employee from a position in one <br />class to a position in another class having a higher maximum <br />salary rate. <br />Regular Full -Time Employee - an employee who normally works a <br />minimum of forty (40) hours per week, and whose position is <br />designated as continuing on a regular full -time basis. <br />Regular Pay Rate - an employee's hourly or monthly pay rate, <br />including special allowances. <br />Temporary or Seasonal Employee - an employee retained to fill a <br />position, full or part -time, which is of a temporary or seasonal <br />nature on a non - permanent basis. <br />3 <br />
