"e A resident asked if the City has had good luck with the rain gardens already
installed in the City. The City Adminstrator answered that so far the program has
been successful. Ile added the Watershed did a pilot project in 2013 that
involved performing maintenance on all of the gardens that required work to
restore them to good condition and it was successful.
Y A resident asked if there would be any private utility work on Schletty with the
concern that that is what delayed the Little Canada Road project. Mr. Elfering
replied that the private utilities are notified of the pending project and are
encouraged to complete any work they need to do on their utilities before or
during construction depending on the scope of work. Every effort is made to
expedite this work so it doesn't hold up the project.
A resident asked what would happen during a heavy rain event if the storm sewer
was under construction. Mr. Elfering said the contractor is required to drain
water from the street by taking whatever steps are necessary. Many times they
figure out where the water is going to flow and then take measures to make sure
it floods into a wetland rather than a house.
Y It was asked if the project could get started earlier in the year. The City
Adminishator stated that the City would try to get it going as early as possible by
bidding the job in March so that the contractor could be selected and ready to go
as soon as road restrictions were taken off in May.
y A resident asked if rain gardens were put in on a hill would a retaining wall be
installed and paid for by the City. Mr. Elfering said every effort would be made
to get rain gardens on flatter ground but if he needed to put one on a hill the City
would pay for and install a retaining wall.
At this point the City Administrator asked for the general sentiment on moving forward
with the project. Everyone in attendance was in favor of moving forward to the public
hearing. The City Administrator said he would pass along the feeling of the
neighborhood to the City Council and a public hearing would be scheduled.
The City Administrator thanked the residents of Schletty Drive for attending the meeting.
34
