MINUTES
PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION
FEBRUARY 6, 2014
LEAH
BROECHER
anticipates his costs at under $500. Nelson reported that he would solicit
donations to help fund this project. Nelson asked if he would have to
edge the outside of the paved area with aluminum edging. Sanders
indicated that edging would be necessary and he could assist Nelson in
selecting the edging. Nelson asked if he would need any permits.
Sanders replied that he would help Nelson with that issue. Nelson asked
if he would install the table. Sanders replied that Nelson would have to
assemble and install the table. Nelson asked if the City would buy the
table. Sanders replied that the City would.
Sanders asked about the timeline for the project. Nelson replied that he
would like the project completed by October, and would like to begin as
soon as the ground thaws. Maida noted that the plan is that work on the
Veterans Memorial would begin on Memorial Day with a dedication
ceremony on Veterans Day. Maida asked about coordination between the
projects. Sanders did not anticipate any conflicts, and indicated that there
would be some equipment coordination needed.
Vang asked about supervision of the work that Nelson plans to do.
Sanders indicated that the Parks crew could supervise and help Nelson
with the work.
Nelson indicated that he needs City approval for his project before he can
submit his plan to the Boy Scouts. Sanders suggested that Nelson contact
either the Parks & Recreation Director or City Administrator for this
approval.
Maida noted that Dan Slain had served as a liaison to the Veterans
Committee and asked if another liaison should be appointed. Both Kong
Vang and Patti Sullivan expressed interest. Sanders noted that the
Commission received all agendas, minutes, etc. of the Veterans Memorial
Committee and any of the Parks Commissioners are welcomed to attend
the Committee meetings.
Sanders thanked Nelson for his proposal which he felt will be a
compliment to Veterans Memorial Park.
Fahey recommended approval of the Nick Nelson Eagle Scout Project as
proposed.
Motion seconded by Vang.
Motion carried 6 — 0.
McGinnity reported that in 2012 the City received notice that Leah
Broecher had donated $5,000 to Spooner Park as part of her estate.
