MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
APRIL 9, 2007
The City Administrator reported that he has informed Oasis that the City
needs some answers on the issue of acquiring the Oasis site by
Wednesday's Council meeting.
The Administrator reported that once the Viking Drive realignment is
completed, the City will have an excess piece of property it can sell. The
Administrator reported that R. J. Marco has expressed an interest in the
property. The City could have the site appraised and offer it to R. J.
Marco at the appraised value, or a request for proposals could be utilized
to sell the property. (This contemplates both the Rice Street site and the
excess land from the home acquisitions.)
Blesener suggested that R. J. Marco be informed that the City would
consider an offer from them provided that the offer was based on
appraised value.
SHERMAN The City Administrator reported that Sherman & Associates has 5,000
BUILDING square feet of The Village office building leased. The leasee is a training
company that may purchase the entire building. There has also been
additional interest in the commercial space at The Lodge.
ECONOMIC The City Administrator pointed out that Hom Furniture is on the Planning
DEVELOPMENT Commission agenda for permits to occupy the former Levitz building.
He also noted that St. Jude Medical is exploring the possibility of a new
150,000 square foot addition on ISD 623's property adjacent to the Lillihei
site.
The Adminish•ator indicated that St. Jude has raised the possibility of
clean up of the property at the northeast intersection of Rice Street and
County Road B-2. The Administrator indicated that the City could use
TIF to take down the bakery building as well as possibly relocate some of
the mobile homes along County Road B-2 and add screening. St. Jude is
going to approach the property owners about this. The Administrator
reported that St. Jude also asked about the City bringing sanitary sewer
into the site. Sewer in that location may require a lift station.
The Administrator reported that he has informed St. Jude that he thought
the City would be interested in using TIF to assist in the demolition of the
old Capital View building at such time that St. Jude may acquire and
redevelop that site. The Administrator indicated that School District 916
may be interested in selling this property within the next 3 to 5 years.
